#HClassBlog - “I like the Avenger’s theme because it goes NEREOM” - May 4, 2026

Introduction:

Hello everyone! My name is Tanisa, and this week, I will be writing the blog for #HClass25. I am a Grade 7 student at Sir Arthur Currie and I enjoy crocheting, playing piano and playing badminton.

The Rose:

This week, a flautist from the London Symphonia visited our school and performed for us. She played a beautiful piece of music that was actually composed just for her, which made the performance even more special. One of the most interesting parts was when she showed us advanced techniques, like playing two notes at the same time, which not many musicians can do. She also answered questions alongside the composer, which taught us more about them and helped us understand more about the music. It was a unique and enjoyable experience that many students found both fun and inspiring!

The Bud:

Track and field is coming up next week, and everyone is getting ready! Next Thursday, students in grades 4-8 will be participating in at least one of the six events: ball throw, long jump, 100m, 400m, 800m and 1500m. Grade 7 and 8 students also have the option to compete in triple jump. It will be a great opportunity to challenge ourselves, show school spirit and have fun with our classmates!

Literacy Learnings:

We wrote about CNN10 stories, everyone chose 3 stories to write a quick summary about with a headline for each one and also hashtags for the other versions. CNN10 is a 10 minute news broadcast we watch every day. The stories connect to many subjects and understanding the news is part of our media literacy studies. This activity helped us practice identifying important information and thinking about how news is presented to an audience. It also helped us better understand what’s happening around the world.

Math Mentions:

In math, we are currently learning about the area of a cylinder. We are working on understanding how to find surface area by calculating it using the formula. This topic is helping us build on our understanding of area, 3D shapes and longer, more tedious formulas. Next week we are going to learn how to find the volume of a cylinder!

Health & Fitness:

For health and fitness, we’ve been preparing for track and field by practicing outside. We have been working on long jump, ball throw and other events along with the grade 6 students. These practices are helping us feel more confident and ready for next week when we do track.

Next Week: Josiah will return for his second time writing the blog. Great initiative Josiah!
