#HClassBlog - Interest will be useful in our future

 Introduction:

Hello everyone! My name is Bilal, and this week, I will be writing the blog for #HClass25. I am a Grade 7 student at Sir Arthur Currie and I enjoy soccer and video games.

The Rose: One of the best and exciting things last week  was 100% our school’s monthly  Character Trait Assembly. In January, the theme was  perseverance. Three classmates won the award - Maghfoor, Maddox and Mohammed. We also saw a great video about the many events and activities happening in the school during the month of January.

The Thorn: Last week we didn’t even get to go outside once because of the cold and snowy weather. We were really sad because we couldn’t play outside in the snow with all of our friends. It was really cold - so, we understand it was for safety. However, it was still a thorn.

The Bud: One of the things we are excited for next week is the Global School Play Day (GSPD).Global school play is an annual event where classes are encouraged to participate in unstructured play for a full day - no screens, no devices.  We plan on bringing board games, cards, art supplies, puzzles and even blankets for forts. You can learn more about it at this link.

Literacy Leanings: This week we continued our learning about themes. We were offered  three poems and had to choose one and  write about the themes in them. If you don’t know what a theme is,  basically it is the message of a poem or story.   “The plot is what happens and the theme is what it means”. I chose the poem The Two Headed Calf” by Laura Gilpin. You can read it below. What do you think the themes are? There are many.

Math Mentions: This week we focused on more simple interests. We did lots of practice. I'm glad we did this because this will be very useful in my future years.

History Happenings:

We are preparing to make podcasts on a variety of topics from Canadian History (Grade 7) and Social Studies (Grade 6). We were given time to research and write our scripts. My partner Deyaa and I are presenting ours on the 1841 Act Of Union. It was the act that combined Upper and Lower Canada into the Province Of Canada. It led to us becoming a country.

Next Week: Ahmed will be writing the blog next week.
