#HClassBlog - "Shanty Be All" - January 21, 2026

"Shanty Be All" is a fun expression that many of us use to celebrate pretty much anything. It is based on the friendly nickname of a classmate, Nishant. He approves of it!

Introduction:

Hello everyone! My name is Deyaa, and this week, I will be writing the blog for #HClass25. I am a Grade 7 student at Sir Arthur Currie and I enjoy playing sports and learning complex math.

The Rose:

One of the best things we had last week was a snow day! We had a snow day because we had about 20 - 25cm of snow, so we were able to stay home for the whole day, which gave us time to finish our work or play games.

The Thorn:

The worst thing that happened last week was actually the weather .It was super slushy and we couldn't play one of our favorite games, soccer, and had to stay on the tarmac during recess most of last week.

Our field before the snow day came.

The Bud:

We are extremely excited about Maddox’s Oreo milkshake presentation which he is really proud about presenting. We've been doing "Food Truck" projects and determining food cost for products, along with discounts, mark-ups and taxes. Maddox chose to make Oreo Milkshakes. We can't wait to see his work.

Literacy Learning:

Last week we continued with activities built around selecting a #OneWord to guide our 2026 year. We created a snow globe using a program called Shapegrams and wrote about why we chose our #OneWord.  I think mine ended up looking magnificent! See it below.

History Happenings:

Last week, we learned a lot about Canada’s First Nations and Indigenous communities and where humans first originated from.  We learned  about the “Berengia Theory” and how the people from Asia may have migrated to Canada.  We talked about Theories, Facts and Beliefs, and how they work together to create our understanding of history.

Did people from Asia travel across the Bering Strait
to North America 25,000 years ago?

Sensational Science!:

Last week we did an ice cube challenge where we had to build a tiny box or barrier to protect the ice from melting, so we had to figure out what materials would work best.  We only had an hour and applied the knowledge we had learned in our Heat Unit (Grade 7).

That's me on the right, with Ahmed and Nishant!

Health & Fitness:

Last week we learned about nutrition and how different foods can help us or harm us. We learned about fats, carbohydrates ,proteins, sugars, and calories. We also learned that, as young people, we should never restrict our calories. Instead, we should choose better foods to eat.

Next Week: Mohammed will be writing the blog.
