#HClassBlog - "Character Assembly Week" - January 31, 2025

 Introduction:

Hello, my name is Tiam, and I will be writing the blog for this week. I like to draw and create stuff that looks good visually. I like playing games like Roblox because it lets me explore different games and lets me use my imagination.


The Rose:

We watched the first episode of a series called Freaks and Geeks. The episode was about different kinds of bullying that can take place with teenagers. It looked at it in a funny, but thoughtful way.  It had a lot of hilarious moments. Mr. Hodgkinson is checking with our parents to see if we can watch the rest. He says that many of the episodes have good connections to our health and literacy program.

The Thorn:

The weather was cold, and we had to have an indoor recess on Friday. This weather is the worst because  people can’t help but track water and dirt into our portable.  This means we have to work in a wet and muddy environment.


The Bud:

We have been working on videos in Geography and next week we are going to share them with the class.  We chose a place of “spatial significance” and shared information on the absolute and relative location, as well as cool facts. My partner and I picked Big Ben. Did you know that it took six years to build?

Literacy Leanings:

We continue reading a book called Two Degrees and we listen to it being read by professional actors on YouTube. It is about three teenage characters in different parts of the world trying to survive three different climate disasters – a wildfire in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, a polar bear attack in Churchill, Manitoba, and a hurricane in Miami.

Gym:

During gym, we played a game called “Cops and Robbers”. It is a game where there are 3 cones with 3 balls on top of them where the robbers have to take the 3 balls, but the cops have to catch them, if they don't catch anyone they are eliminated. Video here.

Science:

We started to learn more about molecules, evaporation and condensation. We also began to study more about matter such as solids, liquids, and gas. This is part of our units in Heat and for Mixtures and Solutions.


Character Assembly

We had a character assembly on Friday. The February theme was Perseverance. We celebrated four people - Adam, Aldo, Joudy H. and Joudy M. Congratulations to them. 

Zoya will write the blog next week.

  Introduction:  Hello, my name is Takshi! This week I will write the blog for #HClass24. I like playing the guitar, reading, writing, and scrapbooking. The Rose:  This Wednesday, we went to Saint Andre Bessette High School to see Grease Jr. It was a great musical and the class loved the songs. The actors were exceptionally good and what surprised me the most was the live band also made up of high school students! The band was behind the set, though you could still see it. Overall, the class loved the performance! The Thorn:   Our Thorn of The Week was the cold weather. Unfortunately, it’s extremely windy and cold outside. It also started to snow on Thursday! The temperatures have dropped into the negatives and the wind has picked up quickly.  The Bud: We will get another chance to hang out with our Kindergarten Buddies on Monday. #HClassBlog - "Mr. Song's Moustache" - April 21, 2025

Introduction:  Hello everyone! My name is Anakin, and this week, I will be writing the blog for #HClass24. I enjoy doing many things, like playing golf, playing video games and sketching. I am more introverted so I prefer being by myself. The Rose:  We have enjoyed three, 4-day weeks in a row because of Easter and a PD Day. So, we got a nice long break from school and some short weeks in-between. It had to be the best part of this month so far. We also had our first Dance/Social on Friday. It was a lot of fun. Me and Taym trying some dance moves. The Thorn:  Unfortunately, our student teacher Mrs. Seaby has left us. She finished her placement with our class. The good news is that she is now qualified to be a teacher and she can get paid for her hard work. Maybe, one day, she could come back like Mr. Song did. #HClassBlog - "I lost so much money in the stock market game" - April 7, 2025

Introduction:  Hello everyone! My name is Mason, and this week, I will be writing the blog for #HClass24. I enjoy doing many things, like playing basketball, playing the piano and drawing. I am an extrovert and love hanging out with friends and family. The Rose: This week, we started a project called “Holiday or Holinay.” Everyone in our class gets a certain day to research holidays that are associated with it. Then we decide if it’s (A Holiday) or if it’s just pure trash (A HoliNay). Each student creates an engaging presentation with ridiculous sound effects to help us make the presentation more enchanting. For example, I have May 7 which is National Barrier Awareness Day. I would call that a HoliDAY because it is a time to recognize barriers that exist for people with disabilities. May 7 is also National Carnivorous Plant Day.
