#HClass24 - It's automatic, it's systematic, it's hyyyyyydromalic, it's Grease Lighting! - December 3, 2024
Introduction:
Hello, my name is Takshi! This week I will write the blog for #HClass24. I like playing the guitar, reading, writing, and scrapbooking. I’m also an author of a novelette (It’s almost published).
The Rose:
This Wednesday, we went to Saint Andre Bessette High School to see Grease Jr. It was a great musical and the class loved the songs. The actors were exceptionally good and what surprised me the most was the live band also made up of high school students! The band was behind the set, though you could still see it. Overall, the class loved the performance!
The Thorn:
Our Thorn of The Week was the cold weather. Unfortunately, it’s extremely windy and cold outside. It also started to snow on Thursday! The temperatures have dropped into the negatives and the wind has picked up quickly.
The Bud:
We will get another chance to hang out with our Kindergarten Buddies on Monday. My buddy is Arielle and I look forward to reading and creating with her.

Math Mentions:
Mr. Haas, our current student teacher candidate, taught us about sales tax and discounts! He explained how discounts reduce the original price and how sales tax adds a small percentage to the cost of an item. We practiced calculating these step by step, combining both concepts to figure out the total price of various items! We did a lot of group activities, making us more comfortable with sales tax and discounts!
Literacy: This week, we started a new novel called Two Degrees by Alan Gratz. We have only read part one, it is about climate change; however, its told as an adventure involving a girl named Akira who is trying to escape a wildfire in the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
We also completed a writing challenge. In the novel Two Degrees, Akira defines herself as an introvert and her father as an extrovert. We evaluated where we fell on that spectrum and wrote a mini essay about ourselves. I am an ambivert who leans toward extroversion. Although I discovered the term “omnivert”, which refers to someone who can flip flop along the spectrum depending on mood and situation. I might be an “omnivert”.
Gym Glimpse:
This week, we started a new unit in gym, Volleyball! We started by learning how to volley, and now we’re learning underarm serves! Volleyball tryouts have also started and the majority of our class is trying out!
Science Salute:
In Science, we completed a project on Apex Predators. Each student researched an apex predator and created a slide which visually presented their findings. Here is mine on the Saltwater Crocodile.
Next Week: Tiam will write the blog!
