#HClassBlog - "You Got This, Mr. Bliss" - Aldo - October, 12

Just a quick blog post this week. We were quite busy and only had four days to fit in all the learning…and fun.

We organized this as a class and Mr. Hodgkinson wrote it for us to review.


The Rose:


Our new Teacher Candidate, Mr. Song, arrived. He is visiting our class from Nipissing University and he is in his first year of studies.


Meanwhile, Mr. Bliss, from Western University, is entering the final phase of his third placement. He is now running the class for most of the day and Mr. Hodgkinson and Song are supporting him. As Aldo said in class... "You got this, Mr. Bliss."

There is also a four-day weekend ahead for us. Sadly, the teachers have to work on Friday. However, on a positive note, they will be learning new literacy strategies and they get a three-day weekend after.

The Thorn:


On Tuesday, we moved our gym period to the end of the day because the gym was occupied by the school photographers. However, as we walked to the park, dark clouds filled the sky and rain replaced the sunshine. Fortunately, it didn’t last long and we still got to have some fun.


The Bud:


Next week, we are heading to Silver City to see the film The Wild Robot. We have been reading the book in class and are excited to see the big screen interpretation.

Coding Connections:


We began our first coding project of the year. We are creating a story, including foreshadowing, using the characters from the Cartoon Network show The Amazing World Of Gumball.


We are learning how to use loops and procedures as we tell a story with a clear beginning, middle and end. We’ll share examples next week.

Art Attack


Speed City Records generously donated a box of old albums to our class. We are creating a monochromatic scene with a full moon on each. To get started, we needed to apply a coat of gesso in order to prime the surface for the acrylic paint we will use next week.

Overall, the class loved the performance! The Thorn:   Our Thorn of The Week was the cold weather. Unfortunately, it’s extremely windy and cold outside. It also started to snow on Thursday! #HClassBlog - "Mr. Song's Moustache" - April 21, 2025

Introduction:  Hello everyone! My name is Anakin, and this week, I will be writing the blog for #HClass24. I enjoy doing many things, like playing golf, playing video games and sketching. I am more introverted so I prefer being by myself. The Rose:  We have enjoyed three, 4-day weeks in a row because of Easter and a PD Day. So, we got a nice long break from school and some short weeks in-between. It had to be the best part of this month so far. We also had our first Dance/Social on Friday. It was a lot of fun. Me and Taym trying some dance moves. The Thorn:  Unfortunately, our student teacher Mrs. Seaby has left us. She finished her placement with our class. The good news is that she is now qualified to be a teacher and she can get paid for her hard work. Maybe, one day, she could come back like Mr. Song did. #HClassBlog - "I lost so much money in the stock market game" - April 7, 2025

Introduction:  Hello everyone! My name is Mason, and this week, I will be writing the blog for #HClass24. I enjoy doing many things, like playing basketball, playing the piano and drawing. I am an extrovert and love hanging out with friends and family. The Rose: This week, we started a project called “Holiday or Holinay.” Everyone in our class gets a certain day to research holidays that are associated with it. Then we decide if it’s (A Holiday) or if it’s just pure trash (A HoliNay). Each student creates an engaging presentation with ridiculous sound effects to help us make the presentation more enchanting. For example, I have May 7 which is National Barrier Awareness Day. I would call that a HoliDAY because it is a time to recognize barriers that exist for people with disabilities. May 7 is also National Carnivorous Plant Day.
