#HClassBlog - "Vee Mussst Rrrrid Inkland of de Childrrrenn!" (The Grand High Witch from "The Witches" - October 24, 2024
Introduction:
Hello! My name is Brielle. I enjoy playing basketball, volleyball, and tennis during my free time; I also enjoy hanging out with friends and family, as well as shopping! I am so excited to be writing this week's blog!
This week we had our very first rendezvous with Mrs. Moore’s J.K and S.K students during buddies. Each of us was paired up with a student that we will be associating with during activities. In other words, we met our “Buddies”. This year, we will be learning, playing games, creating art and exploring the nearby forest together. This week being our first meet up, we did a little project; “All
About Me and My Buddy” so we could each have an opportunity to learn some interesting facts about each other.
The Thorn:
Unfortunately, next week, all grade 7 students are required to take our “ Immunization shots” We can get them at the school or at our own doctor’s office, I personally think it's more advisable for them to be taken at a hospital. At least that is where I would feel more comfortable.
The Bud;
Next week we will be looking forward to wrapping up our Vinyl Record Art we started a couple weeks back. Mr. Hodgkinson has been an amazing teacher and has absolutely made this school year fun instantly!
He has also let us sit with peers of our choice wherever we felt like. This is called Flexible Seating and is preparation for the choices available to us in high school.; However a few t of us have not been able to show enough responsibility when it comes to flexible seating. But, Grade 7 is all about learning how to step-up our maturity and we only get better by learning from our mistakes.Literacy Leanings:
Earlier this week we started a read aloud to the book The Witches authored by Roald Dahl. Throughout the period of the read aloud, Mr. Hodgkinson introduced a new learning opportunity to us termed “Sketchnoting”. Sketchnoting is when reading a book you often doodle around about what you're reading and what you gather from the book, it takes a big imagination and attentive listening to achieve this skill. Since it is our first time, it is optional and he is not evaluating our progress.Math Mentions;
Our student teacher Mr. Song has been doing an amazing job helping in the classroom and especially when it comes to math. Mr. Song did a quick review of area and perimeter from Grades 4 - 6 with us We went outside as a class to try an Amazing Race style activity. We needed to find Area and Perimeter questions around the school yard. When we solved them - for rectangles, triangles, trapezoids and parallelograms, we raced to the classroom to try to be the first completed. Three teams won prizes.
This week we are moving to Grade 7 expectations and learning about the circumference of a circle if we know the radius or diameter.
Science;
During Science this week we had an opportunity to listen to a wonderful poem entitled Man vs. Earth (3 Seconds) by Prince Ea. Click Here to See It.
Prince Ea did an astonishing job when it came to this poem, he talked about so many things that humans have completely destroyed on this planet, and how we need nature, nature does not need us. Moving forward we had a chance to choose a part of his poem that stood out to us and write about it, using the Thinking Stem and RADaR strategies we have learned. I am extremely glad Mr. Hodgkinson has shown us this method when it comes to literacy or just writing overall, I have truly seen a lot of changes and improvement in my writing due to this strategy.
Next Week: Viroshin will write the blog.
