Introduction ~  

Hello, my name is Isaiah, and I will be writing this week's delightful blog! My favorite subject is Gym. I adore playing Baseball outside of school. I like practicing my hitting. I also love watching the Toronto Blue Jays. My favourite part of Baseball is making a diving catch! Enough talking about me, now Let’s go below to the rose.

The Roses ~ 

This week we had two roses. The first was Global School Play Day (GSPD). GSPD was developed seven years ago. Teachers are invited to allow their students a full day of unstructured play -- without screens. Students are asked to bring in puzzles, board games, playing cards, blankets for fort building, Lego and toys. We all had a great time playing games or just hanging out with friends. Also, we got to play with our friends from Ms. Pierce’s class, because they celebrated it too.

We also had a visit from Mr. Hodgkinson’s friend Steve who lives in Iqaluit, Nunavut. He shared videos, pictures and stories about living in Canada’s most northern capital. We learned a little bit about the Inuit people and their language, Inuktitut. He even brought in Arctic char (a fish that is popular there) and Muktuk - which is whale blubber.

The Thorn ~ 

There was no Thorn, it was a good week.

The Bud ~ 

The Bud this week was preparing our Snow Shoe Presentations. So, basically what we are doing is making snowshoes in class from recycled material, duct tape, string and glue sticks. When we are done, we are going to have a relay race in them to see which ones work best.


Now, we are Waiting for snow - fingers crossed!  Why is it raining at 10 degrees in Canada in February?!


Science  ~   

In Science, we have started to look at the states of matter as part of our pure substances and mixtures unit. In a few weeks, we will be making pizza dough - stay tuned.

  Introduction:  Hello, my name is Takshi! This week I will write the blog for #HClass24. I like playing the guitar, reading, writing, and scrapbooking. The Rose:  This Wednesday, we went to Saint Andre Bessette High School to see Grease Jr. It was a great musical and the class loved the songs. The actors were exceptionally good and what surprised me the most was the live band also made up of high school students! The band was behind the set, though you could still see it. Overall, the class loved the performance! The Thorn:   Our Thorn of The Week was the cold weather. Unfortunately, it’s extremely windy and cold outside. It also started to snow on Thursday! The temperatures have dropped into the negatives and the wind has picked up quickly.  The Bud: We will get another chance to hang out with our Kindergarten Buddies on Monday. #HClassBlog - "Mr. Song's Moustache" - April 21, 2025

Introduction:  Hello everyone! My name is Anakin, and this week, I will be writing the blog for #HClass24. I enjoy doing many things, like playing golf, playing video games and sketching. I am more introverted so I prefer being by myself. The Rose:  We have enjoyed three, 4-day weeks in a row because of Easter and a PD Day. So, we got a nice long break from school and some short weeks in-between. It had to be the best part of this month so far. We also had our first Dance/Social on Friday. It was a lot of fun. Me and Taym trying some dance moves. The Thorn:  Unfortunately, our student teacher Mrs. Seaby has left us. She finished her placement with our class. The good news is that she is now qualified to be a teacher and she can get paid for her hard work. Maybe, one day, she could come back like Mr. Song did. #HClassBlog - "I lost so much money in the stock market game" - April 7, 2025

Introduction:  Hello everyone! My name is Mason, and this week, I will be writing the blog for #HClass24. I enjoy doing many things, like playing basketball, playing the piano and drawing. I am an extrovert and love hanging out with friends and family. The Rose: This week, we started a project called “Holiday or Holinay.” Everyone in our class gets a certain day to research holidays that are associated with it. Then we decide if it’s (A Holiday) or if it’s just pure trash (A HoliNay). Each student creates an engaging presentation with ridiculous sound effects to help us make the presentation more enchanting. For example, I have May 7 which is National Barrier Awareness Day. I would call that a HoliDAY because it is a time to recognize barriers that exist for people with disabilities. May 7 is also National Carnivorous Plant Day. I would call that a HoliNAY because a plant has no idea it is a holiday. Sure, botanists and plant lovers might want to celebrate this day; but I think the...
