Introduction ~
Heyy, I'm Yashvi! I’ll be writing the blog this week. I love dogs, they’re my passion for living! I have a dog named Jojo. I also love to play volleyball and sometimes basketball, maybe even soccer, but only when I have nothing else to do.

The Rose ~
We finished our football pool, which was part of our Data Management studies, and Evan won the Super Bowl and Arrow won the Toilet Bowl!!

Their prize was a half pizza each and a cold pop. That meant they had four slices to share - or eat. They both chose to share with their friends.

The basketball coaches selected the girls basketball team after a tryout with over 20 players. Three people from our class made the cut.

The Thorn ~
Unfortunately, some people in our class, including me, didn’t get into the basketball team. But that’s alright, we’ll have another shot next year!

The Bud ~
Next week is the Hour of Code. We are going to design a race track game. Look for more information on that when Tala writes her blog. There will also be a volleyball game where the teachers take on the Boys and Girls teams.

We also tried the beep test. It is also called the “Multi-Stage Fitness Test”. A beep occurs every 9 seconds and, in that time, you have to run between two pylons that are 20 meters apart. Every minute or so, the time decreases to 8.5 seconds, then 8, then 7.5 etc. It wears you out quickly and you can determine your cardiovascular fitness level by how long you can go. It also depends on your age and gender. Unless you’re Satayish or Isaiah (who are amazing athletes) you find yourself exhausted pretty quickly. However, everyone in the class was willing to try and that is all that matters. Do you want to try it? You can find resources here.

Mathematical Mentions ~
We’ve completed brackets for the World Cup. We looked at some data to make our picks, but most of us just picked our favourite teams or teams that we thought might win…such as Brazil, Portugal, France or Germany. The leaders right now are Mr. H., Jasnoor, Mariam, Muhab, Anvi and Doshisha.

Literacy Leanings ~
For Literacy, we presented our Overt and Implied messages Presentation in front of the class. We scheduled on what day we would present and most people picked Tuesday and Wednesday. For the Overt and Implied assignment, we had to find an advertisement, video or image, and write down the overt and implied messages in it. This one of my slides that I completed with my partner Isaiah.

Science ~
In science, we got into groups and had a scavenger hunt in our portable. We had to find words written on slips of paper that were hidden around the room. We used these words to complete a sheet with blanks and learned about Niches & Biomes in an Ecosystem. It was loud and chaotic, but a lot of fun. It was especially fun when a group would find a clue but try to keep the location secret from the other groups…usually they didn’t.

Health ~
In Health we learned about consent and internet safety. There are many images on the internet that we don’t want to see. Some of those images may not have been taken with consent and we learned ways to avoid seeing them or distributing them to others. It’s not always easy to be safe on the internet, but with a few adjustments, you can avoid seeing things you do not want to see.
We also talked about our "Executive Function" and how hormones during puberty can mess with our ability to focus, make good choices or have a strong working memory. We even did some silly improvisational skit to demonstrate good and bad executive functioning. The picture below obviously shows "executive function" gone wrong.
Thanks for reading…next week Tala will be writing!
