This week, our class did a few new things, such as our Mystery Meet (keep reading to find out more), the very first Cross Country race, and the Terry Fox Run! We stayed active and kept working hard on our self regulation this week, and if you were asking me I’d say we’re improving a LOT!

The Rose ~

This week, I think the rose was our first Terry Fox Run! We got to socialize, and we all stayed active. On the same day, we got to perform our dance for the school. We've been working hard to prepare it and, on Friday, it was our time to sparkle and shine. So, we all boogied our BUTTS off. Hehe…

The dance we were practicing for was a French dance called “A Nos Souvenir.” Ms. Frassennelli taught us the dance for a couple of weeks until we perfected it to the max for our Friday performance. Here's a pic with a few of us practicing with Ms. Frass. We had to block out some faces from students in the other class because we couldn't get their permission in time for publication.

The Thorn ~

The thorn this week was probably our work periods. Some of us didn’t quite get our work done, but that doesn’t mean we should give up! Many of us are getting most and even ALL our work done for the week and exceeding expectations while we’re still working on our self regulation. Keep working hard class! It is still early in the year and we are getting into the rhythm and improving our understanding of Grade 7 expectations.

The Bud ~

This week, I think the bud for our all the Grade 7's and 8s are the volleyball tryouts next week. We are a big school, so about 70 students are trying out for 12 positions on the boys' and 12 positions on the girls' teams. I am one of them. Wish me luck!
We are also doing our second Mystery Meet. What is a Mystery Meet you ask? That is where Mr. Hodgkinson makes arrangements with another teacher somewhere out in the world to call us on Google Meet (sort of like Zoom or Skype) and we have a video chat. We don't know where they are. They don't know where we are. We go back and forth asking "Yes" or "No" questions to narrow down our locations. The first one to find the other...wins.  But, we all win as we learn more about Geography.

The classes we are connecting with are also reading the same book as us...Thirst. It is the selection for this year's Middle School Global Read Aloud. We also start it next week.

Mathematical Mentions ~

This week, our class learned more about decomposition! We also learned a fun strategy to round a number up easily. It’s called, the “Think Ten, Think Nine” strategy.  It's a little hard to explain but, if you gave me a six digit number...say 345,682, I could use this strategy to mentally tell you what you needed to get to a million...in about 15 seconds, give or take.

Literacy Leanings ~

October is Women's History Month. To prepare for this, we spent the first two weeks researching 19 Amazing Canadian Women...one for every school day in October. We then used Google Slides to create an animated slideshow, shorter than one minute, to put on the announcements every day. My partner and I researched Buffy Sainte-Marie. She is a Cree-Canadian singer, songwriter, musician and artist. She was the first indigenous woman to win an Oscar. It was for the song Up Where We Belong which was featured in the 1982 film An Officer And A Gentleman.

Science Learnings ~

For science, we started our first unit. It will be about ecosystems and the environment. We watched a video, by a rapper and spoken word artist named Prince EA. His poem Three Seconds reminds us that the Earth has been here for 4.5 billion years and mankind has been here for 140,000. If that was a 24 hour clock....we've been here for....drumroll please....3 seconds.  
That's right, three seconds....and look what we've done to the planet. 
Our task was to choose a line that stood out to us and write about why is was powerful, interesting or meaningful. Here is mine and you can see the Prince Ea Three Second video here.

The Rose:  This Wednesday, we went to Saint Andre Bessette High School to see Grease Jr. It was a great musical and the class loved the songs. The actors were exceptionally good and what surprised me the most was the live band also made up of high school students! The band was behind the set, though you could still see it. Overall, the class loved the performance! The Thorn:   Our Thorn of The Week was the cold weather. Unfortunately, it’s extremely windy and cold outside. It also started to snow on Thursday! #HClassBlog - "Mr. Song's Moustache" - April 21, 2025

Introduction:  Hello everyone! My name is Anakin, and this week, I will be writing the blog for #HClass24. I enjoy doing many things, like playing golf, playing video games and sketching. I am more introverted so I prefer being by myself. The Rose:  We have enjoyed three, 4-day weeks in a row because of Easter and a PD Day. So, we got a nice long break from school and some short weeks in-between. It had to be the best part of this month so far. We also had our first Dance/Social on Friday. It was a lot of fun. Me and Taym trying some dance moves. The Thorn:  Unfortunately, our student teacher Mrs. Seaby has left us. She finished her placement with our class. The good news is that she is now qualified to be a teacher and she can get paid for her hard work. Maybe, one day, she could come back like Mr. Song did. #HClassBlog - "I lost so much money in the stock market game" - April 7, 2025

Introduction:  Hello everyone! My name is Mason, and this week, I will be writing the blog for #HClass24. I enjoy doing many things, like playing basketball, playing the piano and drawing. I am an extrovert and love hanging out with friends and family. The Rose: This week, we started a project called “Holiday or Holinay.” Everyone in our class gets a certain day to research holidays that are associated with it. Then we decide if it’s (A Holiday) or if it’s just pure trash (A HoliNay). Each student creates an engaging presentation with ridiculous sound effects to help us make the presentation more enchanting. For example, I have May 7 which is National Barrier Awareness Day. I would call that a HoliDAY because it is a time to recognize barriers that exist for people with disabilities. May 7 is also National Carnivorous Plant Day.
