"I'm dumb, but I'm getting smarter." - Jason - May 13 Blog

Introduction -

Hi, my name is Desi, and I’m writing this week's blog. My Favorite subjects are Literacy and Science. I truly enjoy playing volleyball and listening to music! This week was generally calm, but we did a lot of fun activities.

The Rose -

Without exception the rose is, our mystery unit. After each chapter and doing connected lessons, it still fascinates. I'd describe it to you, but I don't want to give anything away.

Literacy Links -

The class also created a fast food Shapegram and told us about their favourite fast foods using rich descriptive language. They also got to design their own fast food brand names, and there were many visually appealing ones with awesome logos and creative names. This was part of our Media Literacy and Advertising/Persuasion studies. Here's mine, but they can all be seen here.
Math -

We are learn how to add, divide, and multiply fractions in math! And learned how to use various problem-solving tools, such as area models, hands-on tools and number lines. We're trying to use these skills to solve "real world problems". It's tricky, but we're doing well. Do you remember fractions?
We also finished our ratio mural for #TheArtOfMath. We blended red plasticine (modelling clay) in different ratios with black plasticine (to create shades) and white plasticine (to create tints). We each had a rectangle with a different area model on it. We put them together and this is what it looks like.

Physical Education -

In gym class, we are currently learning how to skip and various ways and tricks we can do; it is also quite challenging but enjoyable as long as you try your hardest. Mrs. Thompson even set up a competition in which whoever can jump the highest number of times wins a donut from BoxCar Donuts. We have our annual Jump Rope For Heart Day coming up next week. (Well, it was annual, until stupid Covid)...at least it is back.

The Thorn -

There was no thorn this week - did you see the weather!! I guess being stuck in a portable is a bit of a thorn, but we sure enjoyed recess.

The Bud -

In dance, we are grooving to Justin Beiber's song Baby. We'll be collaborating with grade 6 students next week, which could be an interesting interaction.
