Introduction

Hi, my name is Victor, and I’m writing this week’s blog. My preferred subjects are gym and I don’t mind a little bit of math. I enjoy playing video games and spending time with friends. I am also a big fan of Tejano music star Selena.

The Rose


I continued working on my passion project during our two Genius Hour this week. I am making a shirt from a pattern I measured myself. It is for my friend and classmate Elien. First, I started taking measurements on Elien. Then I started to trim the material to the proper length. On Friday, I got access to the school’s sewing machine and began to stitch things together. Here’s how is looks so far.
Thursday, March 31 was the 27th anniversary of Selena’s death. She was murdered by a mentally unwell fan (President of her Fan Club) in 1995. I asked Mr. Hodgkinson if he could do a small presentation for Selena. He has shared the story of John Lennon’s death and we did a mini-lesson on “The Day The Music Died”. So, I thought Selena should be recognized too.

He said “Yes” and showed the class a little bit about her life in a short video. Then, during our work session, we got to hear some of her songs! I'm glad he did that because now some of my friends will be able to learn more about Latinx music!

I was wrapping up my hip hop research project and when I finished I was thinking how I had a great experience with this assignment. I got to listen to different rap songs and the song that I was really interested in was called Until The End Of Time by 2pac. It had deep lyrics and I find that really interesting.

The Thorn


The thorn this week was that I had a hard time understanding credit cards and sales tax. I  hope by next week I will be able to understand both of these. On my exit ticket today, I let Mr. Hodgkinson know that I need some more support. I am confident I will figure it out with some review and support.

The Bud

The mask mandate has been lifted! We don't have to wear masks anymore, obviously some people choose to wear it, whatever you’re comfortable with! Personally, I prefer using both! Sometimes, I like the freedom and sometimes I like the privacy that comes with a mask.

Mathematical Mentions

Last week, we learned about Sales Tax, Discounts, Interest and the risks of credit card debt. Although I am struggling a little with a few of these, I find this unit fun. Knowing more about money is important. I like when we do math that is useful in the real world.

Multiple Intelligences and True Colours

We have been learning more about ourselves through a series of surveys. Did you know that there are at least eight multiple intelligences? We are usually strongest in a couple and then a little weaker in the others. I am really strong in People, Self, Music and Image Smarts. The areas I am less strong are Logic, Word, Nature and Body Smarts. We looked at ways to improve our smarts and at careers that use the smarts we are strongest in.

We also did a fun True Colours Quiz. It turns out that I am Orange and Blue. Every colour has pros and cons. For example, I am creative, generous, caring, kind and thoughtful but I can also be a bit overly emotional, too sensitive and easily hurt. Mr. Hodgkinson says that being sensitive is a double-edged sword. Sensitive is used as a positive and negative quality. Sensitive people are supportive and caring, but can sometimes carry the weight of the world on their shoulders.

Gym

We got to play two great games at the gym this week. We played a game called "Gaga Ball" for the first game. We are on a court for this game, and we must do our best to avoid being struck and to be the last one standing.

'Survival tag' was the name of the second game we played. In this game, everyone is it, and your goal is to tag as many people as possible while attempting to stay alive. But there is a method for you to get back up. If you're tagged, keep a tight eye on the person who tagged you, and if they're tagged, you can get back up. That's how you play these really enjoyable games!

We also worked on our basketball skills through a variety of games Ms. Thompson showed us. Intermural Basketball season starts next week.

#HClassBlog - "Mr. Song's Moustache" - April 21, 2025

Introduction:  Hello everyone! My name is Anakin, and this week, I will be writing the blog for #HClass24. I enjoy doing many things, like playing golf, playing video games and sketching. I am more introverted so I prefer being by myself. The Rose:  We have enjoyed three, 4-day weeks in a row because of Easter and a PD Day. So, we got a nice long break from school and some short weeks in-between. It had to be the best part of this month so far. We also had our first Dance/Social on Friday. It was a lot of fun. Me and Taym trying some dance moves. The Thorn:  Unfortunately, our student teacher Mrs. Seaby has left us. She finished her placement with our class. The good news is that she is now qualified to be a teacher and she can get paid for her hard work. Maybe, one day, she could come back like Mr. Song did. #HClassBlog - "I lost so much money in the stock market game" - April 7, 2025

Introduction:  Hello everyone! My name is Mason, and this week, I will be writing the blog for #HClass24. I enjoy doing many things, like playing basketball, playing the piano and drawing. I am an extrovert and love hanging out with friends and family. The Rose: This week, we started a project called “Holiday or Holinay.” Everyone in our class gets a certain day to research holidays that are associated with it. Then we decide if it’s (A Holiday) or if it’s just pure trash (A HoliNay). Each student creates an engaging presentation with ridiculous sound effects to help us make the presentation more enchanting. For example, I have May 7 which is National Barrier Awareness Day. I would call that a HoliDAY because it is a time to recognize barriers that exist for people with disabilities. May 7 is also National Carnivorous Plant Day.
