Introduction
Hi, my name is Manahil, and I’m writing this week’s blog. My preferred subjects are literature and math. I enjoy playing video games and spending time with friends.

This week, we began working on a Hip Hop assignment, where we construct a rap/poem about ourselves, a historical figure, or deconstruct an existing rap or poem. It must contain internal and end rhymes as well as have at least 15 - 20 lines. Additionally, we can take some inspiration from existing raps/poems, furthermore, we can choose to do it with a partner!
We also get to choose Band instruments for Music class now, as the Covid restrictions have been lifted! I’m excited to play wind instruments as I find them more intriguing.
This week, we started working on a Freaks and Geeks assignment where we get into groups (A Writers' Room), and develop storylines for at least three characters in Season 2. Unfortunately, there was no Season 2. The show was cancelled before it found an audience. Once we decide on our Season 2 storylines, Mr. Hodgkinson will reveal what the actual writers were planning for these interesting and complex characters.
The Bud
The mask mandate has been lifted! We don't have to wear masks anymore, obviously some people choose to wear it, whatever you’re comfortable with! We are all respecting each other's choice. Personally, I prefer wearing my mask!
Mathematical Mentions
This week, we learned about Sales Tax, Discounts and more about percentages. For example, how to subtract and add percentages, like taxes and how to calculate the price for something after sale. We had multiple half sheets and had this question on our weekly Friday Flashback!
Literacy Links
This week, we dug a little deeper into nouns and verbs. We understood the different types of nouns, like concrete nouns that you can physically touch and see, and abstract nouns are feelings, things you can’t see or touch but do exist. Examples of a concrete nouns are stapler, kitten apple or table. Abstract nouns are things like beauty, joy, truth, fear.
We went beyond "Action Verbs" and began to recognize "State of Being Verbs".
We also continued working on our Genius Hour / Passion Projects. Hour #2 was on Thursday and next week we will have two more hours to flex our creativity. Now that parents can visit classrooms, we will be inviting them to our Genius Hour Gallery in a few weeks.
That's it for this week's blog! Thanks for reading it! :]
