So You're Telling Me They Can Change Time? - December 19

Introduction

My name is Austin and I am 12 years old.  I am in Mr. Hodgkinson’s grade 7 class. I am a huge fan of school and I love roller coasters. This week was a doozie and there is a lot to talk about but first our quote.

Classroom Quote of the week

AQ: “They’re changing the time zones on planes to reduce or get rid of jet lag.”

AC: “So you're telling me they can change time?”

The Rose

Something we did this week that was radical was that we made pizza dough to kick off our solutions and mixtures unit. First, Mr. H. gave each group a recipe note. Then, we used these dry ingredients: garlic, salt, sugar, yeast and flour. After that we used water and olive oil. We had so much fun making the dough and some of them turned out great and others did not. Some were too dry, others were too wet. But overall it was a good time.

In art we made stained glass with glue and paint. Some people made their jar look like it was bursting with black and green goo. Others made landscapes of far away land and one peer made the video game character Kirby. This was a great project and I hope we get to do something like this again.

The Thorn

It was really sad to learn on Thursday evening that school on Friday was cancelled due to an outbreak of the Omicron variant of the virus at our school. Fortunately, no one got very sick, but the case numbers were high and the decision was made to close the school to be safe. One of the reasons that I was sad was we had a party planned. Another reason is that it is suspected that we will go online after the break which no one is excited for. Hopefully, Mr. Hodgkinson will reschedule that party for the first Friday that we are in-person learning again (hint, hint). I was keen to see who would win the Bust-A-Move tournament that we started in the last block on Thursday.

The Bud 

On a lighter note we get to go on winter break which is exciting because no school and all play! I know a lot of my friends are playing out in the snow and sipping hot chocolate. And some are playing video games where it is nice and warm.

Geography

We went out with a bang when we finished learning about geography . This week many students including myself presented our geography projects in front of the class. The project was to talk about a location of somewhere that has spatial significance to you. Overall, the class loved the performance! The Thorn:   Our Thorn of The Week was the cold weather. Unfortunately, it’s extremely windy and cold outside. It also started to snow on Thursday! #HClassBlog - "Mr. Song's Moustache" - April 21, 2025

Introduction:  Hello everyone! My name is Anakin, and this week, I will be writing the blog for #HClass24. I enjoy doing many things, like playing golf, playing video games and sketching. I am more introverted so I prefer being by myself. The Rose:  We have enjoyed three, 4-day weeks in a row because of Easter and a PD Day. So, we got a nice long break from school and some short weeks in-between. It had to be the best part of this month so far. We also had our first Dance/Social on Friday. It was a lot of fun. Me and Taym trying some dance moves. The Thorn:  Unfortunately, our student teacher Mrs. Seaby has left us. She finished her placement with our class. #HClassBlog - "I lost so much money in the stock market game" - April 7, 2025

Introduction:  Hello everyone! My name is Mason, and this week, I will be writing the blog for #HClass24. I enjoy doing many things, like playing basketball, playing the piano and drawing. I am an extrovert and love hanging out with friends and family. The Rose: This week, we started a project called “Holiday or Holinay.” Everyone in our class gets a certain day to research holidays that are associated with it. Then we decide if it’s (A Holiday) or if it’s just pure trash (A HoliNay). Each student creates an engaging presentation with ridiculous sound effects to help us make the presentation more enchanting. For example, I have May 7 which is National Barrier Awareness Day. I would call that a HoliDAY because it is a time to recognize barriers that exist for people with disabilities. May 7 is also National Carnivorous Plant Day.
