Classroom Quote of the week: “Turn your mask on” - Maymay during a break.

All about me:

Hi, my name is Brooke. I enjoy Anime, playing soccer, listening to music -- specifically rap, Juice Wrld, Lil Uzi Vert etc. I also enjoy playing virtual reality games, especially shooting games.

Song of the week:
Our song of this week was Tequila by the Champs. This song was chosen in our new activity where each week, classmates secretly pick a song from a decade and the class will rate it a Bop (they like it) or a Flop (they do not like it).
This song was chosen from the 50s category and was my favourite. Pretty much the whole class rated it a BOP. Next week, five students will secretly pick songs from the 60s.

The Best Thing About This Week (The Rose):
The best thing about this week was finding out we would be returning in person on Monday. This was really exciting news for the students and teachers.

The Worst Thing About This Week (The Thorn):
Nothing - it was a great week, especially with the good news I just mentioned.

Mathematic Mentions:
This week we learned about financial literacy. Mr.Hodgkinson created a jam board for the students. He asked the question “What does financial literacy mean to you?”. There were some students who replied with the answer “money and how to manage it". However, there were quite a few students who replied with ``I don't know''.

We started by looking at the different currencies from different countries and learning how to make a currency exchange with and without a charge for the exchange.

For example, the Canadian dollar is currently worth .737 in US Dollars. If you went to a financial institute with $375 Canadian and wanted to exchange it for US currency. Then, you would get

$375 x .737 = $276.38 US Currency

If that institution charged you 1% for the transaction, you would subtract 1% of $276.38, which is $2.76

Consequently, you would only walk out with $276.38 - $2.76 - $273.62

Got it?

History:
In History, we continued to work on our brochures, as was mentioned last week. All through this week, students finished up their research in order to become an expert on their topic. We chose our topics from the Grade 7 curriculum which focuses on life in New France or the experiences of First Nations, Metis or Inuit People. We are sharing our work on pamphlets we are creating with Google Slides. They will be printed shortly. Click here to see an example from me.

Literacy Links
This week we mostly focused on our history assignment.  We did continue to work on our Lock-Down Diary -- however, hopefully, we are done with it for good. This week the topic was to celebrate five awesome things that happened in the week, even though we were locked down.
We also picked a new a Read Aloud from a list of seven selections. At first, we had a three way tie between Hawk by Jennifer Dance, World War Z by Matthew Michael Carnahan and Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. After a tie-breaking poll... we picked Ready Player One

Science:
In science this week we continued to learn about the molecular theory of heat. This week, we looked at evaporation and condensation, which includes the impact of heat and cooling on gasses.

Mr. Hodgkinson assigned an Edpuzzle for the class where we watched a video about how if you get a fish and put it in a bowl the water will most likely evaporate unusually quickly. However if you put the fish in a tank the water won't evaporate nearly as quickly. After the students completed this Edpuzzle they were then asked to return and take a note in their virtual science journal.

What are we looking forward to? (The Bud):
This week, we are, of course, excited to return to the classroom and be able to start collaborative activities again. More importantly, we are going to get to socialize with classmates.

Motivational Quote of the Week:
This week the quote of the week is from writer William Shedd, it states:

This is true. We can stay safest if we don't explore the world...but, what is the point of living if we are not going to experience adventure.
