Song of the week: No song this week. However, some of us listened to this LoFi Hip Hop YouTube channel while working.
About Me: Salutations! My name is Afsa. I love to write, read and draw. Yes, I am that person. I wrote this week's blog a little late - it's actually about last week - but I hope it still delivers!

The Worst Thing About This Week (The Thorn): We were all excited to go back to school after just one week of online learning, but then it was extended for two more weeks, and who knows, it may be extended even more. Hopefully not.
Mathematic Mentions: This week, we had our first attempt in learning with cardioids, a geometric art activity that includes rations. We also started looking at fractions in three ways - depending on our comfort: With concrete tools, by drawing representations and, if we were ready, abstractly, like this ½ + ⅔.
We also used Esti-Mysteries for bellwork -- using clues to determine how many objects are in a picture. Give it a try.
Literacy Links: We put some entries into our Lock-down Diary - we celebrated the positives - what we are thankful for, the people in our lock down world and our favourite meal. We also began learning how to modify our sentence structure to enhance our writing. We began with a simple sentence and then remixed it by starting each sentence with...the object, a verb, an adjective and an adverb. Our final sentence borrowed from this thinking. Check them out here.
After finishing Freak the Mighty by Rodman Phillbrick, we started on a new read aloud called Fatty Legs by Christy Jordan-Fenton and Margaret Pokiak-Fenton, a First Nation’s true story taking place in residential schools.
Science: We started a heat unit in science! Science is one of my favourite subjects so I’m really excited. We did some choral reading with the class. The unit is on Heat. We continue next week.
The Arts: We completed a Winter Activity Shapegram, writing about our favourite winter pastimes. The full list can be seen here
What are we looking forward to? (The Bud): Next week, we will be having a virtual baking session for science. I love baking, it’s almost like therapy for me, so I’m looking forward to it along with many others in the class.
Motivational Quote of the Week: This week, we have Sarah to thank for our motivational quote.
