"When are we coming back to school?" Week 1 2021

Classroom Quote of the week: “When are we coming back to class.?" (asked by multiple students). *unfortunately, I did not have an answer.

Song of the week 
No song this week. However, I did discover this LoFi Hip Hop YouTube channel that plays music that is perfect for studying or finishing work. I played it in the background while we all worked.

The Best Thing About This Week (The Rose)
It didn't stink...that was the consensus. When I surveyed the students they generally liked online learning or felt it was satisfactory (all things considered). We realize that we are all safe and we are all learning and doing the best we can given the circumstances. Last week, almost every student attended almost every class. We have technology accessible to us and our internet worked well. We'll make the most of a bad situation. Bottom line: We are all safe...and mask-free learning has its perks.

The Worst Thing About This Week (The Thorn)
The worst thing about this week was, of course, the lockdown and the need for virtual learning. But, we are trying not to focus on the negative.

Mathematic Mentions
We tackled four different Logic Puzzle challenges with the help of the Math Problem of the Week. We also started to look at fractions. More next week.

Literacy Links
We nearly finished Freak the Mighty. We certainly got through the most exciting part of the novel.
We did a lot of introspection and self-reflection. Students completed 6 Google Forms which asked them to assess their progress with the Learning Skills. The feedback they provided will be included in their report cards.
We also completed several introspection activities to help us select our #OneWord for 2021. We then created Social Media style banners with Canva. You can see the entire list here.

Geography
We finally wrote our Geography test. It was scheduled for December, but we held off because so many students were absent due to the Covid outbreak last month. It was the first time we tried a Google Forms Quiz. 

The Arts
Yet again we have our weekly Shapegrams, and this week the focus was Fast Food. We remixed Tony's design and added our own Fast Food logo and design to the cup and french fry container. We then wrote a descriptive paragraph about our favourite fast food meal. See them all here.

What are we looking forward to? (The Bud)

We found out late in the week that there would be at least two more weeks of Remote Learning. So, we are looking forward to making the most of that. We have enjoyed trying Jamboard - so we will certainly explore it more next week too.

#HClassBlog - "Mr. Song's Moustache" - April 21, 2025

Introduction:  Hello everyone! My name is Anakin, and this week, I will be writing the blog for #HClass24. I enjoy doing many things, like playing golf, playing video games and sketching. I am more introverted so I prefer being by myself. The Rose:  We have enjoyed three, 4-day weeks in a row because of Easter and a PD Day. So, we got a nice long break from school and some short weeks in-between. It had to be the best part of this month so far. We also had our first Dance/Social on Friday. It was a lot of fun. Me and Taym trying some dance moves. The Thorn:  Unfortunately, our student teacher Mrs. Seaby has left us. She finished her placement with our class. #HClassBlog - "I lost so much money in the stock market game" - April 7, 2025

Introduction:  Hello everyone! My name is Mason, and this week, I will be writing the blog for #HClass24. I enjoy doing many things, like playing basketball, playing the piano and drawing. I am an extrovert and love hanging out with friends and family. The Rose: This week, we started a project called “Holiday or Holinay.” Everyone in our class gets a certain day to research holidays that are associated with it. Then we decide if it’s (A Holiday) or if it’s just pure trash (A HoliNay). Each student creates an engaging presentation with ridiculous sound effects to help us make the presentation more enchanting. For example, I have May 7 which is National Barrier Awareness Day. I would call that a HoliDAY because it is a time to recognize barriers that exist for people with disabilities. May 7 is also National Carnivorous Plant Day.
