Song of the week

Empty Garden by Elton John . This is our song of the week in memory of John Lennon’s death, because the 40th anniversary of his death was on Tuesday, December 8th. He was killed by a fan with mental illness and we lost a great songwriter and musician. A line in the song that I think symbolizes that day is...
‘It's funny how one insect can damage so much grain’.
Last week, our class learned a new card game to play after we finish our work. It is called Rummy. You can learn how to play it here. There is also an online version here. It is better to play it in person because you can socialize and it helps with math. (That's what Mr. Hodgkinson says...counting, addition and integers)
We are also in the middle of Spirit Week. We had Ugly Sweater Day, PJ Day, Festive Headwear Day, Red & Green Day and Elf Yourself Day. We also brought plenty of non-perishable food to contribute to our Spirit Tree. It will go to the London Food Bank.

The Worst Thing About This Week (The Thorn)
Sadly, there was another Covid case at our school and London is moving into the Red Zone with more restrictions. Hopefully, things will settle over the break and we can return to school in January -- without any distant learning for our class.Mathematic Mentions
Last week,we learned algebraic language and used our to do a coding lesson with micro:bits with Alex, a student candidate that came from Western University. She visited our class virtually. We coded thermometers that could send messages depending on the weather being hot, cold or temperate.

We are currently reading a read aloud is Freak the Mighty by Rodman Phillbrick. We also read a short story called The Sweater which lead to a group project on rivalries. We were going to choose a rivalry and present it using the school green-screen or as a video podcast to be shared on YouTube. Unfortunately, due to the many absences, it has been moved to January.

In geography we chose a location somewhere in the world and determined the absolute & relative location as well as the significance. We presented them using a program called Animoto. I chose Shinobi Zato,a theme park in Japan. It is located at 35°latitude (north) and 135 ° longitude (east). For more information check out my Animoto here.
The Arts
Yet again we have our weekly Shapegrams, in fact we got two of them the Sunset Mansion and Statue of Liberty.
What are we looking forward to? (The Bud)
I am sure we are all looking forward to the break and hopefully it doesn't end up like March Break.
