#HClassBlog - "I almost got tripped by that framework" (Mr. Song) - February, 20, 2025
Introduction:
Hello! This is Yaksh writing the blog for #HClass24 this week. I enjoy singing and I’m currently a performer in two Choirs. I’m a strong introvert, therefore, I love independent activities or activities that don’t include many people and I get drained after being around lots of people.
The Rose:
This week’s rose was our field trip to Trudell Medical Centre, because we got to watch how much work is put into designing and creating better medical tools.
Adam, Harun & Cal learn how to use Tool & Die equipment.
We also had a great time listening to the songs from the 80’s for our WandaVision projects. The songs were amazing and all the detail into making the slides was just fantastic. Every song from the 80s was voted a bop, including Wake Me Up Before You Go Go and Take On Me! See an example of a research slide below.
This week we also started making racing games using a coding program called Scratch. Our class greatly enjoyed learning how to make and play our own game designs.
This week was also the start of the rehearsals for the Lion King Jr. play. We got a nice little break due to a snow day, it was a great time to work on our other projects. We are still currently working on our racing games because lot’s of people want to add extra levels to them.
The Thorn:
Our Thorn of The Week was that, unfortunately, it was still slippery and freezing cold outside. Due to a snow day we could not work on our food truck project which we had to work on with partners.
The Bud:
Next week, some grade 7s, from all three classes, will be performing in a character trait assembly for respect. It looks quite challenging but it will be fun.
Math Mentions:
We continued to work on our Food Truck projects. We have determined food costs with large order discounts, restaurant mark-ups and taxes. Next week, we will finish our websites with our logo and slogan and menu and a computer program that will work as a cash register for our truck.
Gym Glimpse:
This week, we started a new unit in gym…floor hockey! Additionally, the girls’ and the boys’ badminton tryouts are starting next week and the number of people that came to the first meeting was incredible. About 200 Grade 7 & 8 students are interested in trying out for the teams.
Science Salute:
In Science, we started a new unit with Mr. Song, Structures. This week we focused on identifying what the different parts of a structure are and what the different kinds of structures are. We learned there are actually multiple factors in a structure such as frames, bases, and walls. This week we are starting a new project about identifying what kind of benefits are in the structure you choose and what type of structures are in it.
Next Week: Yasmin will write the blog!
