#HClassBlog - “Can’t We Just Play Already” - April 5, 2024

Quote: “Can’t We Just Play Already” shouted  during an outside game of octopus when Aleena had stumbled and had fallen to the ground.

Introduction

What’s up everyone? My name is Renato and I’m writing the weekly blog for our class. I’m an athletic kid and play multiple sports ; The sports I play are soccer, badminton, and volleyball. I also love cooking and spending time with friends and family.

This week, we completed  our Black History Month unit with a Blooket test. Mr. Hodgkinson  created questions from our podcast presentations and put them on the test. Mr. Hodgkinson provided a study Blooket test for us  to practice. That obviously helped a lot (and students took good advantage of it to prepare) since our class average was a 92%. Thanks to Mr. Hodgkinson for providing us support.

Thorn

This week's thorn goes to our French projects. The reason this is our thorn is because only four students finished their French interview projects by the deadline. For that reason we almost lost our viewing party with snacks but luckily, our French teacher Mrs. Pierce gave us a second chance which we all very much appreciated.

Ms. Finlayson will take on the challenge to teach us how to prepare our own pizza dough in the following week. We will need flour, yeast, water, sugar, salt, and olive oil for this project. Our parents helped us out by providing these supplies. We will need to bring in our own measuring cups, bowls, and wooden spoons for this activity. I feel like our class will enjoy what Ms. Finlayson has planned for us and that it will go smoothly. (hopefully).

Math Mentions:

This week we learned a new unit in math. Ms. Finlayson planned lessons for us as we talked about ratios. The reason we learn about ratios is because of how it could help us later on in our lives. For example, ratios can be used for math of course, science, painting, and even baking. Ms. Finlayson has taught us 3 lessons that will help us prepare for our upcoming Flashback -- where we can show off our skills.

Literacy:

This week Ms. Finlayson began our next Read Aloud,  The House Of The Scorpion by Nancy Farmer. The book basically dropped us into the action as soon as it started, offering few  leads, but plenty of room for discussion and prediction . As of Chapter 3, the main character seems to be a  boy named Matt who is a clone who  was created in a lab  I am sure we will learn more in the upcoming  weeks because there are a lot of chapters to discuss  We are flexing our comprehension skills with written responses after each chapter section.

Student Appreciation:

This week we are celebrating Brandon for our student appreciation. Brandon is a talented member of our school volleyball team and band. He used to be clarinet buddies with me when I was in the band. Brandon is positive and is fun to be around so that’s why I decided to celebrate him.

In the following week, Emma will be writing our class blog.
