#HClassBlog - ”The bomb we made in my game is nuclear, so we called it Oppenheimer”. March 27, 2024
Quote: ”The bomb we made in my game is nuclear, so we called it Oppenheimer”. Christian discussing an “entity” in his coded game.
Introduction:
Hey! My name is Ramsha and this week I’ve written the weekly blog for Mr. Hodgkinson’s class! I enjoy playing volleyball, and baking, along with some cooking and spending time with my family.
Rose:
This was our first week with our new student teacher, Ms. Finlayson, who has already been spectacular, and we've only known her for a week! She is already getting to know the students and remembering their names. It is her last placement, so she is designing lessons for us while we hope to make fun memories with her over the next six weeks.

Thorn:
Sadly our thorn this week were the issues we’ve been having with listening, cleaning the classroom and making mature choices. Consequently, we have had to sit in assigned seats. Hopefully, as a class, we can work on this and prove to ourselves that we can handle it by being mature and switching back to flexible seating soon!
Bud:
Next week, in our classroom, we will be having a history test on all the Black Canadians we learned about in February. . We got all the information from each student who created a presentation or podcast. Take a look here.

Luckily, we get to practice the questions beforehand which are provided on a gaming program called Blooket. Blooket takes the test questions and presents them in a variety of fun games that can be played independently or competitively as a class. I’m sure everyone will do well as long as they practice!
Math Mentions:
This week it was a Flashback Friday week. In this week for math, we learned all about square roots, perfect squares, and order of operations (BEDMAS). BEDMAS was a refresher from grade 6 but square roots and perfect squares are a new concept for us. It is also the first time we have Order of Operation questions that include exponents.
Literacy:
Recently we have been preparing our pitches for our Genius Hour / Passion Projects. Earlier this year, we asked ourselves the question: “What would happen if we were allowed to pursue our passions in school?” In April, we will get a chance to see as we will be provided with 5 - 6 hours of class time to do whatever we want. The only criteria is that we have something we can share by the end. In late April, we will invite parents, staff and students to visit our gallery - where we show off the things we have created. There are students making videos, baking, painting, coding games and some are even writing short stories. Stay tuned!
Student Appreciation:
This week we are celebrating Lujain. Lujain is always positive, respectful and kind. She is a talented member of our band, playing tenor saxophone, and she gets along with everyone in class.
Next week, Renato will be writing the blog for our class!
