#HClassBlog - "You wouldn't clap if a farmer farmed" - December 1, 2023
Quote: “Why are you guys clapping, you wouldn’t clap if a farmer farmed, would you?” Sarcastically and hilariously observed by Kingston after our class clapped for this month's student teacher Ms.Poole, when she completed a drama lesson with us. (I suppose he has a point -- but it was Ms. Poole's first lesson).
Introduction: At last, another week in Mr. Hodgkinson’s portable 14 class, has come to an end. Hello! I’m Rhianna. I enjoy writing, jewelry and spending time with friends. This week I will be sharing with you some of the many adventures and accomplishments our class has been through during the time of November 20-25.
The Rose: The rose of this week is most definitely watching our student teacher, Ms.Poole, complete her first ever lesson with our class. We are incredibly proud of Ms.Poole for her hard work and consideration for our class. She is truly a remarkable addition to our class, we are so glad to have her with us. Our favourite lesson Ms. Poole has shared so far is for the Banyan Trees, created using oil pastels. Here is my example.
The Thorn: Once again there were no thorns of our week. Although we did need a few reminders to listen attentively, we’re getting much better day by day.
The Bud: As of this week, we’re extremely excited for this month's characteristic assembly - Responsibility. Each month we take notice of a characteristic and honour the Currie Coyotes that have shown that characteristic. As of right now we don’t know which one of our classmates have been selected, but I’m sure Avery will be back to share with you very soon.
Literacy Leanings: We are nearly finished our Read-Aloud Two Degrees. It is a gripping story of courage during climate crisis. We are connecting it to our studies in Geography and Science too.
Currently, two of our students have decided to write a letter to our principal addressing the bathroom issues at our school. There has been some vandalism and there are not enough bathrooms available for our over-populated school. These two students would like to be part of the solution. They are greatly passionate about the matter and are both very strong writers.
Math Mentions: Recently in math, we’ve been learning different ways to organize and show data, specifically qualitative data gathered through surveys. We are learning to express data as relative frequency and be able to convert that data into a circle graph. We worked this week designing surveys that we will share with Grade 5, 6, 7 & 8 students. I worked alongside Krishi on a survey to learn about our peers' favourite Disney movies. Below is our class's data from the lesson delivered by Mr. Hodgkinson.
Geographical Gatherings: This week in Geography we’ve started learning about absolute location, meaning the exact location of any place or area. Which may include things such as coordinates, lines of longitude and latitude, address etc. Another thing we started creating is a video on geography using the platform Wevideo. We were instructed to create a video on a place with spatial significance to us or the world, things like major landmarks across the world. Such as The Eiffel Tower, The Sydney Opera House etc. It is a big project, but there should be some examples available on our next post.![]() |
