#HClassBlog - "We want to fail..." March 28, 2023
Classroom Quote of the week: “We want to fail, it's the best way to learn.” - said by Mr. Hodgkinson when learning talking about our Word Smarts in our Multiple Intelligences unit.
Introduction ~
Hello, my name is Anushtup, and I will be writing this week’s class blog. I play badminton, table tennis and tennis. In my pastime I like computer programming.
Also, I am improving my chess skill. I enjoy recreational skating. That’s all about myself and I am looking forward to writing this blog.
The Roses ~
In my opinion, this week’s rose was our Scratch Coding project. We all enjoyed it, and it was after an extended period of time since we last did some coding. More on that later.
We also completed a fun challenge for History and Science (Form & Function). For our studies of the Fur Trade in New France, we built snowshoes out of (mainly) recycled material. We made them way back in February, but finally got enough snow to test them in the nearby park.
The Thorn ~
Unfortunately, a few people got hit in the face during gym and recess periods while we were playing games. Accidents happen, but this time some glasses were broken, so that was a thorn for the week.
The Bud ~
Mr. Hodgkinson has invited his friend Jerry, who is a juggler, to visit our class. Jerry teaches juggling at the Boys and Girls’ Club here in London and will be coming to our class to teach us how to juggle. In preparation, we also started making our juggling balls. There were four different types we could make. I made mine out of balloons and rice.
Math ~
In math, we learned a formula to find the volume of a cylinder. Volume= area of base X height which is or 𝝅hr² where h is the height and r is the radius and 𝝅 ( pi) is 3.14. And we also learned the formula to find the surface area of a cylinder. Surface area=2𝝅r²+2𝝅rh where h is the height and r is the radius and 𝝅 (pi) is 3.14. It sounds more confusing than it is. It's just that you have to be careful to follow every step.
Coding ~
For coding, we develop a program on Scratch that will calculate the volume and surface area of a cylinder. When we give it the radius and height, it shows the volume or surface area. Here is my example.
Literacy/Health ~
We have started to investigate our multiple intelligences. There are at least eight "Smarts" we each possess in different amounts. They are Body, Logic, Image, Self, People, Nature, Music and Word. Some people include Culinary Smarts too. As you might have guessed, I am strongest in Logic Smarts. I wrote this blog, so I guess my Word Smarts aren't bad either.
Next blog post will be from Sameed - his second!
Thanks for reading this week's blog.
