Introduction ~  

Hi, my name is Mahdi, and I will be writing this week's blog. My favorite subjects are Literacy and Gym. I absolutely love playing basketball in my free time and playing it with my friends. Now enough about me; let's get right to this week's blog.

The Rose ~ 

We can all agree that this week's Rose is the Zoom meeting that we had with Izad Etemadi.We learned a lot about being a live actor and how they have to take care of their voice. It was really fun. We also got to ask some questions.

The Thorn ~ 

I think the thorn for last week was that the Girls’ team lost their basketball game. However, the coaches say they keep improving and are sure to get a win soon.

The Bud ~ 

Last week our competitive Boys’ basketball team had an amazing win against Stoneybrook, both teams were strong and the game was exciting.


Phys Ed ~ 

I think it’s safe to say that we had an enjoyable time in the gym. This week in gym class, we played floor hockey. it was my first time playing, and my friends and I had a lot of fun. What we did was that we got into two groups. One was for players interested in  competitive floor hockey  and the one for students who just wanted to  play for fun. My friends and I were on the competitive side because we like to win a lot, which was terrific for us.

Literacy ~ 

For literacy we are doing the #OneWord2023 For the #OneWord challenge, students are encouraged to upcoming year. pick a single word to help focus the upcoming year. For example, if you wanted to take more risks in 2023, you might choose “Adventure” or “Challenge”. If you wanted to get more active, you could choose “Energize” or “Motivate”. It was  fun using the Canva website to pick cool and aesthetically appealing backgrounds. My example is below, I chose "Diligent" because I want to focus on my basketball skills so that I make the school team in Grade 8.



Math & Science ~ 

In mathematics, we are learning about rates. We looked at rate of speed and the price of one product if we know the cost of many. We are learning how to “cost” a product. We watched a YouTube video called “4 Levels of Hot Chocolate”. In it, three chefs (one beginner, one amateur and one professional) make different versions of their favorite hot chocolate. 

We were challenged to make or research a hot chocolate recipe of its own and cost out each item. For example, if you needed 5 teaspoons of sugar (25 grams) and sugar was $5.00 for a 1 kg bag. The cost would be half a cent a gram…or about 13 cents for the recipe. This is also leading us into our Pure Substances and Mixtures Unit in Science. 

Some students are actually making their hot chocolate and even filming it to make TikTok videos and Instagram pages that can be shared. More on that next week when Deacon writes our blog.

The Rose:  This Wednesday, we went to Saint Andre Bessette High School to see Grease Jr. It was a great musical and the class loved the songs. The actors were exceptionally good and what surprised me the most was the live band also made up of high school students! The band was behind the set, though you could still see it. Overall, the class loved the performance! The Thorn:   Our Thorn of The Week was the cold weather. Unfortunately, it’s extremely windy and cold outside. It also started to snow on Thursday! #HClassBlog - "Mr. Song's Moustache" - April 21, 2025

Introduction:  Hello everyone! My name is Anakin, and this week, I will be writing the blog for #HClass24. I enjoy doing many things, like playing golf, playing video games and sketching. I am more introverted so I prefer being by myself. The Rose:  We have enjoyed three, 4-day weeks in a row because of Easter and a PD Day. So, we got a nice long break from school and some short weeks in-between. It had to be the best part of this month so far. We also had our first Dance/Social on Friday. It was a lot of fun. Me and Taym trying some dance moves. The Thorn:  Unfortunately, our student teacher Mrs. Seaby has left us. She finished her placement with our class. The good news is that she is now qualified to be a teacher and she can get paid for her hard work. Maybe, one day, she could come back like Mr. Song did. #HClassBlog - "I lost so much money in the stock market game" - April 7, 2025

Introduction:  Hello everyone! My name is Mason, and this week, I will be writing the blog for #HClass24. I enjoy doing many things, like playing basketball, playing the piano and drawing. I am an extrovert and love hanging out with friends and family. The Rose: This week, we started a project called “Holiday or Holinay.” Everyone in our class gets a certain day to research holidays that are associated with it. Then we decide if it’s (A Holiday) or if it’s just pure trash (A HoliNay). Each student creates an engaging presentation with ridiculous sound effects to help us make the presentation more enchanting. For example, I have May 7 which is National Barrier Awareness Day. I would call that a HoliDAY because it is a time to recognize barriers that exist for people with disabilities. May 7 is also National Carnivorous Plant Day.
