#HClass22 Blog - "Dang, Mr.H was a player back in the day" October 18, 2022
Classroom Quote of the week: ”Dang, Mr.H was a player back in the day’’, said by Muhab (A joke made because Mr. H. talked about his girlfriends in highschool. (NOTE: He said he meant "girl" "friends").
Introduction ~
Hi Besties! I’m Mariam and this week I will be writing our fourth blog! My favourite sport is volleyball and I love expanding my French skills. My favorite show is Cobra Kai, I’m an excellent mathematician and I play the flute.• • •
The Rose ~
This week, I think we had a couple of moments that could be considered the rose. First, we found out four of our astounding athletes made the competitive volleyball team. Also, two of our students took off to Cross Country Regionals. We were ecstatic when we heard one of our boys, Isaiah, got 2nd place overall and will be continuing to Valley Finals. Lastly, we got to top off this week with an enjoyable park visit.• • •
The Thorn ~
I think the thorn this week was that some of the students who tried out for the volleyball team had to face the disappointment from being cut. Mr. Hodgkinson and Ms. Pierce, the coaches, told us we should be proud of ourselves (and we are) and that it is a "life lesson" (it is). But, rejection still stings.• • •
The Bud ~
This week, the Bud is anticipating Week Two in our Football Pool challenge. We are competing against a Grade 7/8 class from Northridge Public School. We met them virtually last week after a Mystery Meet. Their teacher is Mr. deGryp who used to teach at our school and is friends with Mr. H. We are comparing our average results, class vs class, in the weekly football pool. Luckily, (or maybe I should say cleverly) we succeeded in winning the starter round by carefully examining the statistics. It’s up to Week 2 or Week 3 to determine which class wins the case of pop.| My picks for Week 6 |

Mathematical Mentions ~
This week in math we started talking about Greatest Common Factors (GCF). The tough part is being able to distinguish between (GCF) and Lowest Common Multiple (LCM) and when to use each to problem solve problems from real life situations. Thankfully, we got a lesson on it before and notes for our math journal to keep our brains fresh in time for the next Flashback Friday.• • •.
Literacy Leanings ~
This week, we got to visit the library and pick out a new set of books to hold onto for the week. We decided to go with something a little higher than our grade level to keep us challenged and learning. We got to work on a collaborative slideshow with two other classes and pick a writing option to share our opinion or research about the book Thirst. These two other classes were located in Waterloo, Ontario and Quesnel, British Columbia. You can find the amazing work completed here and my example is below.
We also started a Mystery Meet with a class from New York State. We were trying to find their city when we ran out of time. We are now asking a question a day on a virtual bulletin board program called "Padlet" to try and locate them, as they try to locate us.• • •
Geography ~
We continued our geography studies! To start, we used the information we learned about cardinal directions to help us launch the lesson on Relative Location. For this activity, we will be describing where we live (without giving specific details). Instead, we are using familiar landmarks so that a visitor could identify our "relative location" in London, Ontario. My example is below. We also used Google Draw to design a home. We're also getting more comfortable with Google Maps through our Mystery Meets and as we determine relative location.• • •
Thanks for reading…next week, Yara will be writing
