I Want To Donate To The Needy - Elien Blog - December 14

 Introduction

This week’s blogger is Elien. She likes music, hanging out with friends and sports, especially soccer.

This week was pretty extreme. It was quite eventful. We started off the week with a diagnostic math quiz about time. Which everyone seemed to nail. Mr. Hodgkinson wanted to check our understanding because we’d be looking at time zones in math and geography. We have had two interrupted years, so sometimes things get missed. Luckily, facts about time and elapsed time were not among them.

Classroom Quote (Conversation) of the Week

Andrew: ”I want to donate to the needy”

The Rose

One thing I know my class was excited for is the raffle shout out to Andrew who was being so kind and doing what he calls “donating to the needy”. Andrew won four times in one raffle and didn't even get a prize for himself. Instead, he chose to share them with other members of the class, including Mazen, who was new and had very few tickets.

Another Rose

Friday was special and fun Ms. Davis our guest teacher was filling in for Mr. Hodgkinson. The weather was nicer, but not pretty. The field was extremely wet and muddy, too. There were many people, including me, who slipped and decided to wear the mud back to the portable. Of course, it was picture day. Everyone looked great. Although, many students were covered in mud on their bottom half.

A slight exaggeration - but a few were close

Every Friday in French is Extreme Challenge Friday which means we spend the whole period playing games and doing challenges for points. We would like to thank Mrs.Davis for bringing in treats for the class on Friday. As usual we watched Freaks & Geeks for our weekly health discussion. Freaks & Geeks is a Telvision Dramedy set in 1980. It focuses on a group of kids close to our age who are dealing with the challenges of...well...being teenagers. Even though it was 40 years ago, the problems are familiar. This week’s episode was about the challenges of fitting into social groups and the pressures to drink alcohol and get into bars or clubs.

The Thorn

I don’t think there was a thorn. This was an enjoyable week.

The Bud

Well, the winter break starts on Friday, so two weeks of rest and relaxation is what we are all looking forward to...and need.

Literacy Links

In Literacy we finished The Barren Grounds, which was our class read aloud and this year’s Intermediate selection for the Global Read Aloud. We enjoyed it, but Mr. Hodgkinson said he “didn’t do it justice”. He says that he “can’t do read alouds properly with a face covering on”. Henry suggested that he stand in the doorway to the portable for our next read aloud and then he can remove his mask. I hope it’s warm enough for him in January.

Geography

Several people have already finished their geography presentations and they we’re excellent. The rest of us are putting the final touches on ours, especially after we saw the work that students such as Kaua, AQ, Sulaiman and Henry did.

Thank you for reading, Stay tuned for Austin's special Holiday Blog next week.
