#HClassBlog - "Mr. Song's Moustache" - April 21, 2025

Image
Introduction:  Hello everyone! My name is Anakin, and this week, I will be writing the blog for #HClass24. I enjoy doing many things, like playing golf, playing video games and sketching. I am more introverted so I prefer being by myself. The Rose:  We have enjoyed three, 4-day weeks in a row because of Easter and a PD Day. So, we got a nice long break from school and some short weeks in-between. It had to be the best part of this month so far. We also had our first Dance/Social on Friday. It was a lot of fun. Me and Taym trying some dance moves. The Thorn:  Unfortunately, our student teacher Mrs. Seaby has left us. She finished her placement with our class. The good news is that she is now qualified to be a teacher and she can get paid for her hard work. Maybe, one day, she could come back like Mr. Song did. She might even come back with a mustache like Mr. Song did – but probably not. Ms. Seaby on our Pizza Dough making day. The Bud:  We have been working with an ...

#HClassBlog - "I lost so much money in the stock market game" - April 7, 2025

Introduction:  Hello everyone! My name is Mason, and this week, I will be writing the blog for #HClass24. I enjoy doing many things, like playing basketball, playing the piano and drawing. I am an extrovert and love hanging out with friends and family. The Rose: This week, we started a project called “Holiday or Holinay.” Everyone in our class gets a certain day to research holidays that are associated with it. Then we decide if it’s (A Holiday) or if it’s just pure trash (A HoliNay). Each student creates an engaging presentation with ridiculous sound effects to help us make the presentation more enchanting. For example, I have May 7 which is National Barrier Awareness Day. I would call that a HoliDAY because it is a time to recognize barriers that exist for people with disabilities. May 7 is also National Carnivorous Plant Day. I would call that a HoliNAY because a plant has no idea it is a holiday. Sure, botanists and plant lovers might want to celebrate this day; but I think the...

“HodgtolaRocknRolla” - said by Brielle, Gurleen, and Thanya during lunch when they heard it was Mr. Hodgkinson's nickname. Introduction:  Hello everyone! My name is Thanya, and this week I will be writing the blog for #HClass24. I enjoy doing many things including baking, writing, reading as well as playing volleyball. Here’s a picture of one of my favourite books. ( Ghost by Raina Telgemeier) The Rose:  One of the highlights of this week was starting a new read-aloud with our teacher candidate, Ms. Seaby! The book is Touching Spirit Bear by  Ben Mikaelsen. We’ve been sketching and writing about the book and it’s been an exciting process. We just handed in our work, and we are looking forward to continuing the read-aloud while sketching key details regarding the book.  The Thorn:  We had a 5 minute break time since it was good weather, but unfortunately a couple students did not come back on time. Due to this we won’t get the opportunity to go outside ...

“H ey Look, a distraction” - said by Anakin during a gym game  Introduction: Hello everyone! My name is Gurleen, and I’m thrilled to be writing this week’s blog for #Hclass24. I have a passion for reading, writing, and I love spending quality time with my friends and family. Here's a picture of my favourite book. The Rose: An exciting highlight of this week was welcoming our new teacher candidate Ms. Seaby! I’m looking forward to collaborating with her on upcoming projects and having discussions throughout her time with us. It’s going to be great having her as part of our classroom community! Ms. Seaby The Thorn: In French class, we had a coding project this week. Unfortunately, several classmates missed the agreed-upon deadline for submitting their projects. As a result, our class lost the potluck that was planned. The Bud:  I’m excited for next week because we will begin a new read-aloud with Ms.Seaby. I’m intrigued to find out which book we’ll be exploring. Math Mentio...

The Rose:  This week we made catapults with our Kindergarten Buddies by using spoons, popsicle sticks and rubber bands. It was really fun!  My group, working with our Kinder Buddies. I was so happy that the sun came out a little this week. It was still very cold and icy, but it was starting to warm up. The Thorn: There was not a Thorn, it was a pretty straightforward week. The Bud:  Next week, on Monday we will be having a Ramadan assembly, so the whole school will get  to learn about this special month for Muslims. Next week will also be the last week before March Break and we are all looking forward to that!...

#HClassBlog - "I almost got tripped by that framework" (Mr. Song) - February, 20, 2025

Introduction:  Hello! This is Yaksh writing the blog for #HClass24 this week. I enjoy singing and I’m currently a performer in two Choirs. I’m a strong introvert, therefore, I love independent activities or activities that don’t include many people and I get drained after being around lots of people. The Rose:  This week’s rose was our field trip to Trudell Medical Centre , because we got to watch how much work is put into designing and creating better medical tools. Adam, Harun & Cal learn how to use Tool & Die equipment. We also had a great time listening to the songs from the 80’s for our WandaVision projects. The songs were amazing and all the detail into making the slides was just fantastic. Every song from the 80s was voted a bop, including Wake Me Up Before You Go Go and Take On Me ! See an example of a research slide below. This week we also started making racing games using a coding program called Scratch. Our class greatly enjoyed learning how to ...

#HClassBlog - "The Benefits Of Unstructured Play" - February 5, 2025

Introduction:  Hello everyone! I’m Zoya, writing the blog for #HClass24 this week. I can’t wait to share my experiences with you all! I’ll tell you a bit about myself: I love playing badminton, writing stories, and reading. The Rose:  This week’s highlight was when we had our Global School Play Day (GSPD) on Wednesday with Ms. Hislop’s class. GSPD is a global movement where teachers are encouraged to let their students play for an entire day. However, they can not be on screens. Research has shown that play has started to disappear from student live and this day gives kids the chance to reconnect with the excellent social skills that develop when they are allowed to enjoy unstructured play. We took a break from lessons to have fun for the entirety of the day. After some activities in our classroom, we headed to the park to play games and enjoy the playground. Learn more about GSPD here .  The Thorn:   There was no thorn this week. The Bud:  Next week,...
