Introduction:  Hello, my name is Arya! and this week I will write the blog for #HClass24. I like drawing, tennis, and playing the violin. I also think I'm very creative. The Rose:  This Friday we had the raffle! Every 6 weeks, or so, Mr. Hodgkinson will draw tickets. Students have earned potential matching tickets by getting work done and returning things on time. We also win them with random games and in team activities. So, the better organized you are, the more tickets you probably have. The prizes include chocolate bars, candy, pop and fun stickers. The Thorn:   We had an excellent week so we didn’t have a thorn! The Bud: Next week we will be going on a field trip to the nearby high school, Saint Andre Bessette to watch a musical. It is called Grease Jr.   and it is a high school version of the 1972 Broadway musical. Math Mentions:   We are finishing up our percentage of a number unit in math. If you convert the percentage to a decimal, and multi...

Introduction:  Hello, my name is Arfa! and this week I will write the blog for #HClass24. I love playing volleyball with friends. I also love shopping and making art. The Rose:  We all were  excited because Friday was a PD day which means we had a short week. Unfortunately, not for Mr. Hodgkinson, he had to be at the school for parent meetings. However, he says he looks forward to that because he likes meeting our parents to discuss our progress. Our short week went well, and we had a 4 day long weekend!  We also got to show our Why Remember? video at the Remembrance Day assembly. We all worked hard on it, remembering our lines, filming them and editing together a video to show that we understand the meaning of Remembrance Day -- so we were proud. You can see it here . The Thorn:   Our week was so short that we didn’t actually have a thorn! The Bud: Next week, Mr. Haas, our new Teacher Candidate from Western teaches his first lesson ever. I am sure he wi...

Introduction: Hello, my name is Cal and this week I will write the blog of #HClass24. Currently I’m on the Sir Arthur Currie boys basketball team. I also just finished a London Jr Knights tournament over the weekend. We won our first 3 games and then we lost in the quarter-finals against a good US team. I finished the weekend with 2 goals and 2 assists.  The Rose: Learning about Micro Bits with Thames Valley Technology expert Mr. Tangredi to learn about artificial intelligence and its role in farming. Also, Mr. Koivu, our Guest educator on Tuesday took us to the park because we had worked so hard. Personally I played basketball with some friends and I was “cooking.” The Thorn: The thorn this week involved our Pumpkin Time Bombs. We brought in too many pumpkins, so we had to wait for some to explode before we had enough rubber bands.  As a result, it took a little longer and one rotted over the weekend. Mr. Hodgkinson says he learned a lesson - Nine pumpkins maximum. We...

Introduction: My name is Viroshin. My favourite holidays are Christmas and Halloween. My favourite TV show is The Loud House . I wrote this blog with the help of Mr. Hodgkinson, I hope you enjoy it. The Rose: The rose this week is easy. Halloween was on Thursday and I dressed up as a clown and got lots of candy. I am even saving a sour lollipop for later. We got to wear our costumes at school and we tried the Pumpkin Time Bomb challenge. The Thorn: Mr. Song, our teacher candidate from Nipissing University, left us on Friday. However, he is coming back in February – so it was “see you later” not “goodbye”.  We also had our immunization shots. I had to get three. They hurt a little bit, but not too much. Mr. Song with our class on Halloween. The Bud: We are starting some work in Geography and I am looking forward to learning more about it. Literacy Leanings: We nearly finished reading Roald Dahl’ s The Witches and watched the 1990 movie version on Friday. It was made before CGI (Comp...
