Introduction:  Hello! My name is Brielle. I enjoy playing basketball, volleyball, and tennis during my free time; I also enjoy hanging out with friends and family, as well as shopping! I am so excited to be writing this week's blog! The Rose: This week we had our very first rendezvous with Mrs. Moore’s J.K and S.K students during buddies. Each of us was paired up with a student that we will be associating with during activities. In other words, we met our “Buddies”. This year, we will be learning,  playing games, creating  art and exploring the nearby forest together.  This week being our first meet up, we did a little project;  “All  About Me and My Buddy” so we could each have an opportunity to learn some interesting facts about each other. The Thorn: Unfortunately, next week,  all grade 7 students are required to take our “ Immunization shots”  We can get them at the school  or at our own doctor’s office, I personally think it's mor...

#HClassBlog - "We'll miss you Mr. Bliss." - October 16, 2024

Introduction: #HClass24 is back with another blog written by me, Ava. I Hope you enjoy it. I love gymnastics, dancing and cheer. I am also a big fan of the performing arts and, of course, I love writing. T he Rose: This week we went on an incredible field trip to the movie theater to see The Wild Robot. Nothing is better than watching a movie in the theater eating popcorn and soda with all your friends. The movie was good, but we agreed that it wasn't as good as the book we read in class. The Thorn: Sadly, our teacher candidate from Western, Mr. Bliss, left us on Friday. He was an awesome teacher who always taught great lessons and will definitely be missed in the future. Hopefully, he can return as a guest educator when Mr. Hodgkinson is away. The Bud: Next week for the first time this year we will have buddies!  I love seeing the little kids run up to the door like it’s the best day ever. Coding Connections: This week we started coding our Amazing World of Gumball adventures wit...

#HClassBlog - "You Got This, Mr. Bliss" - Aldo - October, 12

Just a quick blog post this week. We were quite busy and only had four days to fit in all the learning…and fun. We organized this as a class and Mr. Hodgkinson wrote it for us to review. The Rose: Our new Teacher Candidate, Mr. Song, arrived. He is visiting our class from Nipissing University and he is in his first year of studies. Meanwhile, Mr. Bliss, from Western University, is entering the final phase of his third placement. He is now running the class for most of the day and Mr. Hodgkinson and Song are supporting him. As Aldo said in class... "You got this, Mr. Bliss." There is also a four-day weekend ahead for us. Sadly, the teachers have to work on Friday. However, on a positive note, they will be learning new literacy strategies and they get a three-day weekend after. The Thorn: On Tuesday, we moved our gym period to the end of the day because the gym was occupied by the school photographers. However, as we walked to the park, dark clouds filled the sky and rain repla...

Introduction: For the fourth year, the #HClassBlog returns. This year’s group of learners, #HClass24, had their first lesson in blogging on Friday. We talked about using a framework with headings to set up our thinking. Once again, we will be using the Rose, Thorn and Bud strategy to talk about… The best part of our week - The Rose The bummer part of our week - The Thorn And What we are looking forward to in the next week - T he Bud The Rose: On Wednesday and Thursday, two coaches from the London Whitecaps soccer club came to Sir Arthur Currie to provide professional instruction to our students. #HClass24 spent an hour on Thursday learning coordination fundamentals and important soccer skills before breaking into four teams for two  fun games. The Whitecaps organization also purchased new soccer balls, mini-nets, pinnies and pylons for our gym department. The Thorn: Our thorn is a bit of a dilemma for us. Ms. Rees offers us Master Class instruction on our instruments - so ea...
