Quote of the Week: “I can’t wait to be old enough to have a mango margarita!” - overheard during a lunch room conversation.  Introduction: Hey Readers! My name’s Callen and I like math, literacy, art and geography. Outside of school I enjoy karate and coding. The Rose: This week our rose had to be the sock drop. The sock drop is a fundraiser for people who do not have clothes or socks. The entire school brings in plain white socks and whichever class brings in the most socks wins the Coyote Trophy. Also, at the end of the fundraiser all the students that brought in socks get to throw the socks in baskets and basketball hoops from the stairway. Callen at the Sock Drop. Another amazing part of our week was the creation of a fun racing game created by me. The game is called Super Codey Kart . It was very popular in our class and got 51 plays on the first day. You can visit it here . The Thorn: We thankfully didn’t have any thorn for our class this week. However it has been very ...

Quote of the Week: “Minwoooo!!” A student's name that was regularly harmonised by the entire class when any minor inconvenience occurred. We asked, he is okay with us having fun with his name. Introduction: This week’s blog is written by me, Umar!- Umar S as in there's two Umars in our class!  My favourite subjects at school are gym and literacy. I’m so excited to write the blog this week! The Rose: In French class this week, we had the pleasure of watching the film Ratatouille . Instead of English, it was “En Francais” or in French! It added an unexpected element of humour. Moreover, our French test and the weekly Friday Flashback were handed out earlier than usual. On Friday, we also received our Progress Report Cards. Another highlight this  week was the raffle . We collect raffle tickets during the month and every six weeks there is a draw. If your ticket is pulled, you can choose. from an  array of prizes included treats like soda, chocolate, and chips, among...

Quote of the Week: "Gee, Oh Golly, That's a knee slapper ... yuck, yuck, yuck." Cole sarcastically and humourously responding to a joke he didn't appreciate. Introduction: Hi, I am Yara. I like  writing, reading, and literacy overall. I also enjoy math, French, and gym. Outside of school, I play piano and soccer. The Rose: The Rose for the week had to be our Pumpkin Time Bomb experiments! We brought in pumpkins and measured their height and circumference. Then, we wrapped them in elastic bands until they blew up. We counted how many bands it took and then measured the diameter and thickness of the pumpkin rind. We used this to learn about the relationship between diameter and circumference. Later, we will look at the data on a scatterplot. Here's a GIF capturing one explosive moment! The Thorn: Last week, our beloved teacher candidate from Nipissing University, Mrs. Shamirian, bid farewell to our cozy classroom. Although we will miss her, we are eagerly anticip...

Quote of the Week:   “Hey, they were in the play!” -- shouted by several students when seeing actors Emeka Agada and Leon Qin coming down the stairs at The Grand Theatre after seeing Kim’s Convenience . Introduction: For the fourth year, the Grade 7 class at Sir Arthur Currie in Portable 14, will be sharing their thoughts and stories in a weekly blog. This week, we created the blog collaboratively. Next week, Yara will be our first student blogger, with Umar and Callen already signed up for November 15 and 22. The Rose: When we write the blog, we start by reflecting on our Rose, Thorn and Bud for the previous week, (October 20 - 24). The rose is the thing we loved and, last week, that had to be our field trip to see Kim’s Convenience at The Grand Theatre. To make it even better, Ms. Dolby and Ms. Shamirian (our teacher candidates from Western and Nippissing University) were able to join us. The Thorn: The thorn represents something we did not enjoy, or regret. Last week, bus #5 an...
