So You're Telling Me They Can Change Time? - December 19

Image
Introduction My name is Austin and I am 12 years old.  I am in Mr. Hodgkinson’s grade 7 class. I am a huge fan of school and I love roller coasters. This week was a doozie and there is a lot to talk about but first our quote. Classroom Quote of the week AQ: “They’re changing the time zones on planes to reduce or get rid of jet lag.” AC: “So you're telling me they can change time?” The Rose Something we did this week that was radical was that we made pizza dough to kick off our solutions and mixtures unit. First, Mr. H. gave each group a recipe note. Then, we used these dry ingredients: garlic, salt, sugar, yeast and flour. After that we used water and olive oil. We had so much fun making the dough and some of them turned out great and others did not. Some were too dry, others were too wet. But overall it was a good time. In art we made stained glass with glue and paint. Some people made their jar look like it was bursting with black and green goo. Others made landscapes of far aw...

I Want To Donate To The Needy - Elien Blog - December 14

Introduction This week’s blogger is Elien. She likes music, hanging out with friends and sports, especially soccer. This week was pretty extreme. It was quite eventful. We started off the week with a diagnostic math quiz about time. Which everyone seemed to nail. Mr. Hodgkinson wanted to check our understanding because we’d be looking at time zones in math and geography. We have had two interrupted years, so sometimes things get missed. Luckily, facts about time and elapsed time were not among them. Classroom Quote (Conversation) of the Week Andrew: ”I want to donate to the needy” The Rose One thing I know my class was excited for is the raffle shout out to Andrew who was being so kind and doing what he calls “donating to the needy”. Andrew won four times in one raffle and didn't even get a prize for himself. Instead, he chose to share them with other members of the class, including Mazen, who was new and had very few tickets.  Another Rose Friday was special and fun Ms. Dav...

"Yea, A School Project" - AQ Blog December 6

Introduction This week’s blogger is AQ or Ahmed. He loves coding, soccer, and studying. This week’s weather was chilly, but very muddy ! It was declared to be “Tarmac Only Recess” on Friday. It’s not much fun running around in winter boots on tarmac, especially when most of the tarmac is taken up by portables and a porta-pack. But, as the saying goes, “You play the cards you’re dealt”, (We’ve been playing card games in math class by the way). Classroom Quote (Conversation) of the Week For context, Eric, Henry, & I had finished our work. Ahmed: Eric, what is Henry doing ? Eric: He’s working on his “school project”. Ahmed: But I see him coding a Scratch game? Eric: “Yea, (winking) a ‘school’ project. The Rose Well, I managed to get a 60-day streak on XTRAMath. XTRAMath is an online tool we use to build our operational fluency. We are only asked to go on three times a week, but there are sticker and raffle ticket rewards for certificates and streaks we achieve. A 60-day streak...
