Blue Monday is considered to be the saddest day of the year, due to a combination of bad weather and long nights. It always happens on the third Monday in January. The excitement of Winter Break is over. The weather is cold and shivery and the long nights and short days are getting to people. Did you know that the sun provides us with Vitamin D? We get a lot less of the sun, and vitamin D, in the winter and that can impact our moods. ...

I wrote this week's blog a little late - it's actually about last week - but I hope it still delivers! The Best Thing About This Week (The Rose):   We were really nervous to start online school, we were almost anticipating something to go wrong with the technology. But, fortunately, everything went smoothly, maybe even a bit too smoothly. We got to use Jamboard online. That gave us a sense of community in our classroom. Some students were willing to talk and others shared in the text chat window. We were apart, but we were together. Song of the week  No song this week. However, I did discover this LoFi Hip Hop YouTube channel that plays music that is perfect for studying or finishing work. I played it in the background while we all worked. The Best Thing About This Week (The Rose) It didn't stink...that was the consensus. When I surveyed the students they generally liked online learning or felt it was satisfactory (all things considered). We realize that we are all safe and we are all learning and doing the best we can given the circumstances. Last week, almost every student attended almost every class. We have technology accessible to us and our internet worked well. We'll make the most of a bad situation. Bottom line: We are all safe...and mask-free learning has its perks.
